Brief Window, 1991

33"x 177" installed

colour photographs, photostats, cibachromes, Plexiglas

This work consists of seven parts:

a) Three colour photographs made from the first photograph ever taken, by Niepce in 1826. They are taken from reproductions in three different books. I have added, in red, the dates of publication of those books to the photographs. The central photograph is reproduced upside-down, as it appeared in the book it was taken from.

b) Two identical photostats of a window at either end of the work reproduced from a film still from True Heart Susie by D.W. Griffith.

c) Two cibachromes of the time on a digital clock, one below each of the photostats.
