Meaningful Work, 1991
84" x 112" installed
cibachromes, photostats, plexiglas, duratrans from Robert Flack photograph.
This is a five-part work made up of:
a) A cibachrome of a constellation into which is dropped an image taken from a photograph of my grandfather and his friend sitting on a cut-out moon.
b) Directly below this is another cibachrome of a nebula into which is dropped an image taken from a film still of Louise Brooks climbing a circus ladder.
c) Centred to the right of these two cibachromes is a duratrans made from a photo/drawing by Toronto artist Robert Flack in which he combined the images I gave to him of my grandfather and Louise Brooks.
d) Two pleximounted text panels beside the cibachromes make up part of a phrase that winds its way throughout the cibachromes and the duratrans. The phrase is taken from the film L'Avventura by the director Antonioni.
